Program of Study

The following program of studies shows courses that I took toward the Master of Water Resources degree.

Science & Engineering

  • Physical Hydrology — an introduction to surface hydrology.
  • Water Reuse — technologies of wastewater treatment, water quality problems and water quality testing, environmental regulations (e.g. SDWA).
  • Natural Resources Field Methods — developed a wetland monitoring program which is being applied annually to wetlands in the Galisteo Basin.
  • Water Resources Field Problems — collected field data and historical data on acequias in Mora County.
  • Water Resources and Models — applied economic and geohydrological principles in development of a model of the San Agustin Plains basin hydrology.
  • GIS for Water Resources — developed GIS's for water resource applications; projections, DEMs, rasters. Final project: used UV satellite data to analyze degree of greenness of land along Rio Grande to determine whether it is being irrigated.

Policy, Management, & Planning

  • Contemporary Issues in Water Resources — researched issues and proposed management approaches to troubled watersheds.
  • Intergovernmental Administration Problems — explored the interrelationships among various levels of government.
  • Foundations of Community Development — how communities can work to resolve their organizational and resource difficulties; group project: developed recommendations for Bernalillo County master plan criteria, including water resource development.
  • Water Law — Western and New Mexico water law.
  • Negotiation, Facilitation, and Public Dispute Resolution — theory and techniques of negotiation, facilitation, and public dispute resolution.
  • Urban Design Theory — a survey of historical and contemporary approaches to urban design across many cultures.
  • Professional Project — developed and piloted a workshop on water right adjudication for individual water users in the Lower Rio Grande.
