Spatial Averaging Soil Properties Using Comppct

Describe the NM963 soil in terms of its properties in the Mapunit and Component Tables. How many components does it have? What are their names? What percentage of the map unit does each component comprise? What is the predominant surface slope where this soil unit is found? What is the dominant soil texture? What percentage of the soil is in hydrologic soil groups A, B, C, D? Do these soil properties make sense considering where this soil is located?

Question: Is there some way to do the weighted averaging automatically? Is there some way to merge data according to field values in the related tables?

NM963

Ct
Component Name
Total %
1 Rock Outcrop 18
2 Regnier 36
3 Los Tanos 12
4 Latom 32
5 Gallen 2

Predominant Surface Slope= 15 (What does 15 stand for? Am I supposed to use only SLOPEL or SLOPEH or both together? I used both together.)
Dominant Soil Texture = FSL @ 39% (See below.)

Hydrologic soil groups
A = 0%
B= 2%
C= 12%
D=86%

Vertically Integrating Soil Properties Over the layers

For mapunit NM963, how many layers does each component have? What is the total soil depth (inches) for each layer and the average depth (inches) for the map unit? What is the total water holding capacity (inches of water) over the full soil depth for each component? What is the average water holding capacity (inches of water)for soils in this map unit?

Note: I decided to use MSAccess rather than Excel for the following computations as they are amenable to database queries. If anyone wants to see the actual queries, you can download the file from Access Database Used for Queries in this Assignment.

How many layers does each component have?

What is the total soil depth (in inches) for each layer?

What is the average depth for the map unit?

What is the total water holding capacity over the full soil depth for each component?

What is the average water holding capacity for soils in this map unit?

Land Use

I clipped the RGIS 1:250,000 Quad USGS Land Use/Land Cover for New Mexico to match the Pecos Headwaters map from assignment 5.

I color-coded the Anderson land use codes to show how the land is used.
